Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (OEP) – (MA and MAPD)

The Open Enrollment Period for MA and MAPD plans for 2010 is from January 1st to March 31st.
Applications will be effective the first of the following month, pending CMS approval.
Elections made during the OEP are limited in that they must be made to the same type of plan
(regarding Medicare prescription drug coverage) in which the individual is already enrolled.

Allowed Medicare Advantage OEP Changes
There is a limitation on elections during Medicare Advantage OEP
Elections are permitted to the same type of plan with respect to
Medicare prescription drug coverage, as follows:

Original Medicare	Medicare Advantage (MA-only plan)	PDP, or MA-PD Cannot add drug coverage
Original Medicare & a standalone PDP	MA-PD or an MA-PFFS and the same PDP	MA only or a different PDP to use with Original Medicare. Cannot drop drug coverage or switch to another free-standing PDP
Medicare Advantage-only plan (MA)	Another MA-only plan or return to Original Medicare	MA-PD, or Original Medicare and a PDP Cannot add drug coverage
Medicare Advantage with Prescription Drug (MA-PD)	Another MA-PD or return to Original Medicare & PDP MA-PFFS & PDP	MA-only plan, or Original Medicare without a standalone PDP. Cannot drop drug coverage
